Following the successful second EU-Caribbean Global Gateway Sargassum Conference in Grenada, where stakeholders from across the globe gathered to discuss about this topic and set the groundwork for cooperation, we are now pleased to invite you to the third EU-Caribbean Global Gateway Conference on Sargassum that will take place in the margins of the Global Gateway Forum, in Brussels.
This conference will mark a key milestone in our ongoing efforts to address the sargassum crisis, focusing on concrete progress made since then, with tangible solutions in the promotion of the Sargassum value chain in the Caribbean. Key stakeholders from the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and beyond will come together to share experiences and explore concrete alternatives to the creation of a value chain from sargassum.

Opening Session – Introducing the 3rd EU-Caribbean Global Gateway Conference on Sargassum
This session introduces the conference theme and objectives: “From start-up to scale-up”.
Session 1: High-Level Panel: Developing the Sargassum Value Chain
Ministers from key countries in the region will present their progress, priorities, and upcoming interventions to advance the sustainable development of sargassum value chains. The discussion will highlight national strategies, investment needs, and opportunities for regional alignment.
Coffee Break & Networking
Session 2: From Start-Up to Scale-Up – Accelerating Sargassum Solutions
This session focuses on innovation and growth, showcasing start-ups that are developing sustainable sargassum-based solutions. Presentations will cover early-stage companies plan to overcome challenges as they scale, and what support mechanisms and reforms are needed to facilitate their growth.
Lunch Break & Informal Networking
Session 3: Strategic Partnerships and Way Forward
This session will present key financing instruments and partnership platforms that enable the development and scaling of sargassum value chains. It will conclude with proposed next steps for advancing a coordinated regional approach.

The Networking Reception will take place after the Conference at the el Maison Grand Place Studio (see location) from 16.15 to 18.00. This will be an opportunity for delegates (with invitation) to continue discussions in an informal setting.
The 3rd Global Gateway Sargassum Conference will focus on pragmatic and concrete solutions under the EU Global Gateway umbrella, that have demonstrated success on the ground.
By highlighting concrete case studies, this conference will serve as a call to action for stakeholders to shift their focus from start-up to scale-up solutions, creating viable pathways for the long-term, sustainable management of sargassum.
The event will also explore financing mechanisms to support the implementation of these solutions, leveraging partnerships and resources from across the region and beyond.

The 2nd EU-Caribbean Global Gateway Conference on Sargassum, organized by the EU in 2024, in collaboration with the OECS and the government of Grenada was a success, bringing together nearly 400 participants from across the Caribbean, Latin America and Europe, fostering a collaborative conversation on addressing the Sargassum issue.
The conference which was themed ‘Turning the Tide: Sustainable Practices and Economic Opportunities for Sargassum in the Caribbean Basin,’ aimed to address the growing ecological, economic, and societal impacts of Sargassum blooms while exploring sustainable management and valorization strategies.
This two-day event convened policymakers, financial experts, industry leaders, researchers, businesses, and other stakeholders to advance investment and foster partnerships that could drive innovative solutions and sustainable development in the region.
